A few years ago, I joined the Wakefield Choral Society, an amateur singing group in my hometown. It’s been great fun singing in the chorus, and I’ve made lifelong friends. I’ve even had a few solos at our performances! For the last two years, I’ve been the group’s webmaster. I redesigned our site and put us on Facebook and YouTube.
The chorus was founded back in 1988 and has been a part of the town’s Adult Education program. None of the other classes were breaking even for the town, so last year they decided to cut the program all together. That means the Choral Society is now on its own.
The future looks grim. It’s not cheap for a group like ours to exist. We have to pay for our director and accompanist, music rights, performance spaces, sound and lighting, etc.. Every member of the chorus pays to belong, but it’s just not enough.
So we’re fundraising. If we could find one or two magic benefactors to become our sponsors, that would be amazing. But I’m hoping at quantity over quality when it comes to donations. I set up a PayPal account where people can donate. If we could get even $1-5 donations from LOTS of people, we could definitely hit our goals and survive to sing another day.
